Now, most of the historic downtown area is being restored and preserved as part of the National Park. For locals and visitors alike, the thermal baths are a great attraction. Hot Springs history is sprinkled with a colorful reputation for plethora of brothels, illegal gambling and entertainment, which attracted several famous visitors like Theodore Roosevelt, Bonnie and Clyde, Al Capone and others.

Hot Springs Education~ Hot Springs is served by the Hot Springs School District. The district is made up of four elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. The district is responsible for monitoring all the schools and making sure they comply with the standards of Accreditation for Arkansas Public Schools. All schools are encouraged to reach above and beyond the minimum standards, and provides each student and parent all the help they want to succeed.
The district also offers magnet programs, which offer unique experiences for in-depth study in specific areas of interest. Magnet programs focus on a specialized theme.
There is also several private schools that serve students in Pre k-12 grades.
Hot Springs Recreation and Attractions~ In 1832, the Hot Springs Reservation was established by Congress. It granted federal protection of the areas natural hot springs and making Hot Springs the first national park to be protected by the government. In 1911, the Hot Springs National Park was formally established. Now, the park is an outdoor paradise.
Bathhouse Row lies within the National Park and consists of 8 turn of the century structures. The Park Service supervises Bathhouse Row. The Fordyce is another bathhouse that has been converted into a museum. The Fordyce offers visitors a detailed history of the city's past. Many downtown health spas and hotels use the thermal waters for bathing. You will also find several drinking fountains with this wonderful water for free in the downtown area.
Because of attractions such as Oaklawn Park, Crystal Falls, Magic Springs, the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival, the Hot Springs Music Festival and the thermal waters, the city has become a tourist mecca. Annual events in Hot Springs include an outdoor skating rink in November through January, the World's Shortest St. Patrick's Day Parade, the Big Barbecue Cook Off, the downtown Bathtub Races, the Hot Springs Blues Festival and the Hot Springs Jazz Festival.
Hot Springs is full of outdoor and indoor fun. The nightlife is a time that brings out playful people that like to party in a good way. The city is full of unique restaurants and lots of shopping spots. Parks are dotted across the city with playgrounds, picnic areas, ball parks, ball fields and community centers.
